we were 16 miles from central London but the German bombers frequently dropped their bombs close to us out in Essex
My Dad built an air-raid of railway sleepers and my Mum would not use it so during air raids we´d be making jam tarts, cookies and things. I know! rationing was on -- but She `borrowed ´ Lend-lease Canadian cow cake from the local farm and boiled out the molasses sugar and we had an enormous garden, plenty of fruit and veg... Flour was no problem either... .

we lived in Feltham Middlesex where there was the railway marshiling yards as well as a factory where they repared Spitfires
