damage in the War when a bomb hit the boy's playground causing peripheral damage to the Woodwork Centre. It was renamed Kingsland Central in the early 50's with a uniform of maroon blazers blue shirts/blouses plus a school cap for boys. Amalgamated with Queensbridge Seconday Modern in the late 50's (not without opposition from parents of Kingsland Central) its name was changed to Edith Cavell. This was in honour to the memory of the nurse executed by the Germans for helping Allied soldiers in World War 1.The Upper school was in in Enfield Road and the Lower school was in Queensbridge Road. Closed on merger withe former Dalston County Grammar Sec. School to become Kingsland school in 1982. The former Edith Cavell school became the headquarters for Hackney's Education Directorate in 1992.
