New Heys
Hello there,
I was a pupil at New Heys High School for girls in Allerton from 1955 to 1961. We had a school dance in December 1960, the very first since the school opened, so quite an exciting event then. We were allowed to have boys at the dance and so Quarrybank boys were invited. They came complete with their own "pop" group, and some of my friends dragged me up to sing a few numbers with them. The down side of this was that our Headmistress was stood at the back fuming whilst this was going on presumably enraged at the idea that one of her "young ladies" would dare to make such a spectacle of herself in this fashion. Laughable nowadays, really. I wonder if anyone remembers this or was present at this dance. Or does anyone know the name of the group that would have been playing at this dance ? I was also in a play at Quarrybank school in about 1957-58 I think. "The Happiest Days of Your Life", and I played the part of the Headmistress, Miss Whitchurch. The part of Miss Gossage was played by one of the boys, Adrian Smith. Does anyone remember this ?
