Mr Lofthouse

I had only one close encounter with Mr Lofthouse and his cane -due to me getting in a fight with another boy in the school canteen. Other than that I think he was a fair bloke and used to encourage my athletic ability, which as I remember was a sort of mind over matter thing!

Mr Lofthouse - just loved Onward Christian Soldiers - until children tried to sing it !!
I dont think we ever got further than the first verse before he shouted at us to stop.
And he did carry out his promise that if he caught 6 children being naughty in assembly
he would cane the lot...

Miss Pattison, she could be quite scary if she didnt take a liking to you, fortunately she liked me because my brother was very good at French, we used to walk home down Fairfax Avenue together sometimes, she lived on Cottingham Road.
Mr Murray, another scary one, taught music and maths. I remember having a week off school because I was frightened about some maths thing and faked a stomach ache and sickness.
Mr Clayton, a nice gentle old man.
Mr Rumsey and Mr Muncie, I was never in their class but 2 more scary teachers.
Miss Partridge, she lived down our street and we dared each other to knock on her door for penny for the guy.
Mrs Ogden, she was nice and friendly.
Mr Wilkinson, I was in his class for the last year, he loved asking random general knowledge questions while you waited for the bell to go, I never dared put my hand up even thought I knew the answers.

Mr Croton - science and PE teacher. Used to yell "you're stupid girl, what are you?" and you had to stand up and say "I'm stupid, sir".
Mrs Kirk - cookery. Must have done a good job because I am a cook now.
Mr Murray - music. I managed to escape his press gang choir - probably because I couldnt sing a note.
