Rhyl High School was founded in 1973 when the comprehensive system replaced the old Rhyl Grammer School. All the good teachers were drafted to other schools in the area and Rhyl High recruited various student teachers, geriatric teachers who were near retirement age and other teachers who had recentl been released from Denbigh Mental Hospital. Rhyl High School was a joke in 1973 and continues to be so to this day [2011] It has one of the worst records in the whole of the UK, not just Wales. If your child can read at age 16 then you have done well. Most sad souls like myself came out of Rhyl High, sadly lacking in the skills expected from a decent high school. I studied off my own back during my 20s and 30s, no thanks to the dungpile I call Rhyl High [discuss]
