In 1879 the Girls' School Company was established in Glasgow and in 1880 it opened The Park School in the city centre. In 1895 the Comapny purchased a small private school in Helensburgh and established Helensburgh High School for Girls. An expanding roll led to the purchase of 'Ardenlee' in Stafford Street in 1901. 'Ardenlee', formerly a private house (built in 1859) had been run as a private school since 1875. Renamed St. Bride's, the school re-opened in 1902 after extensive alterations had been carried out by the architect Alexander Nisbet Peterson. The former building in Charlotte Street became a boarding house. The roll continued to expand under the school's headmistress, Miss Renton, who retired in 1929 after 34 years and several other large Victorian houses were purchased as boarding houses. In 1977 St. Bride's merged with nearby Larchfield Boys' Preparatory School to form Lomond School which offers co-educational schooling from the ages of 3 to 18. In 1997 a serious fire destroyed the main St. Bride's building (the old 'Ardenlee') and in 1998 a new building was opened on the site, providing modern facilities for the 21st century.
