St Joseph's College was founded in 1875 by the Marist Brothers as both a boarding school and the first Novitiate for the training of Marist Brothers in Great Britain. St Joseph's became part of the Local Education Authority in 1981 and has continued to provide for the educational needs of the local Catholic community as one of the 4 six year co-educational comprehensive schools within the Burgh of Dumfries.
