Ysgol Babanod y Tywyn was opened in 1971 to serve the needs of a fast growing RAF Station. Initially it was opened as an Infant's school and children transferred to the local Primary School at the age of 7. However, parents were not happy with this situation. In 1995, parents organised a petition requesting a change of age range for the school. This petition was duly forwarded to the Welsh Office and in 1997, permission was granted for Ysgol Babanod y Tywyn to become a fully fledged Primary School and to change its name to Ysgol y Tywyn. An excellent example of parent power prevailing in our democratic society.
