The teachers that had the greatest impact on me were Mr Jones - Physics and Mr Norton - Technical Studies, circa 1971. The Welsh Mr Jones was in my mind one of the best teachers ever, he ignited the spark of power generation in my mind. Because of this I followed this dream and have built power generation plant and transmition in Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, India, Cyprus and Ghana. Mr Norton, probably the biggest man, in every sense of the word, I have ever met, showed me disclpin in thought, now as a front line contractor this guy layed the foundation of what I am now. Thanks.

announced that there was a possibility of it closing. It has been a gradual process and each year there is one less form in the school. It is now in its final year with only 4th 5th and 6th year pupils attending. It is no longer known as Crookston Castle Secondary, but Penilee Secondary Crookston Annexe. The new school has been started on the Crookston Road just between the railway line and Rosshall Hospital,(across the road from the Pines Pub) good place for the staff to go when the going gets tough! Crookston has amalgamated with Penilee Secondary and both will be based at a new school at Rosshall in 2002. The school will we demolished at the end of this school year to make way for a planned housing development. It was a bit of a dump and an Institution, school now closed 19.6.2002

Well it looks like i,m the only one here to write somthing good about bishop greer, but thats easy because it was a fantastic school, built in 1967 i joined the year after in 68 aged 11. At the time it was a state of the art school,over its short lifespan (it was bulldozed about 1995) it taught many many pupils, a lot who still live and work around central manchester. It is now an old folks complex but they kept the old shool gates and caretakers home. I pass in my car a couple of times a week and it never fails to bring a lump to my throat --- chris jammer

Was at Albany from 1950 until 1955 was in Drake House participating in all the usual activities until the third year when the head of the day Mr C M Bennet, decided he wanted pupils to take GCE qualifications. It was a bit of an experiment he had started a little earlier with the previous year and wanted to see how we would cope. So I became one of the GS class boys along with some others, about fourteen or fifteen in total.

Remember Mr Harard? who remember's mr nicholl,mr read,mr woods,miss layer,that dog mr williams,miss wade,mr (bend over) lambert,mr foskett,mr haggard,mr bates.climbing the back gate,getting caught by mr williams (whackkkk)what a great school,where else could you learn nothing,get a beating on a daily basis & still go home and watch little house on the prarie & wonder what the hell was going on?.Great days though i wish i could go back just to get a friend of mine (in my class)that would forge my daily report form & once again over the the back gate & away only to return to get my afternoon mark,cheers ricky.

Miss North who in true Queen victoria style "Was not amused!!" stormed down the centre of the hall in front of the entire school, pupils and teachers, and ordered Mr Perks to turn the music off, and told him to go straight to her office as soon as assembly was finished! whoooooooops! It just made mr Perks even more of a hero! Mr Owen the Religious Instruction teacher also stormed off in a fury. It was an amazing site at the time. I remember Mr. Owen, also the following teachers, Mr. Lockwood (Deputy Head), Mr. Johnson (English), Mr. Packwood (P.E) and Miss Mildenhall who was our 1st year teacher, and I saw her get married at the church in Carrs Lane in Birmingham Town centre.

damage in the War when a bomb hit the boy's playground causing peripheral damage to the Woodwork Centre. It was renamed Kingsland Central in the early 50's with a uniform of maroon blazers blue shirts/blouses plus a school cap for boys. Amalgamated with Queensbridge Seconday Modern in the late 50's (not without opposition from parents of Kingsland Central) its name was changed to Edith Cavell. This was in honour to the memory of the nurse executed by the Germans for helping Allied soldiers in World War 1.The Upper school was in in Enfield Road and the Lower school was in Queensbridge Road. Closed on merger withe former Dalston County Grammar Sec. School to become Kingsland school in 1982. The former Edith Cavell school became the headquarters for Hackney's Education Directorate in 1992.

There is now an Old scholars' page on the school website; www.gatton-park.org.uk It is very interesting reading the history of Gatton Park but what about the other half of the school - namely Royal Alexandra?? Nothing is mentioned about the joining of these two schools - why it came about - or the history of The Royal Alexandra. I know it happened 50 years ago having just been to the Reunion at Bishopswood. I was at Bishopswood before they joined forces with the Royal Albert.I am sure it would make interesting reading.

In 1936-1939 the name was Ramsey Abbey GRAMMAR School, so add this to the links list.The Headmaster was F T Allen(Teapot).In Sept 1939 afternoons were taken over by Hornsea High Schoolgirls(evacues)and all sensible education was suspended.Pupils were helping with the harvest and the Headmaster was very ill.I still have a copy of the Brochure issued at the Inauguration Opening Ceremony. The headmasters wife was Phoebe,and she served lunch to the fee-paying pupils;we scholarship pupils could not afford it. She composed the school song; Ramsey thy light shall lead us, Ramsey thy wisdom guide' Where`ere our feet may wander, Our heart shall here abide. Corny but proved true.
