were held in building near town centre (can't remember name.) There were two courses, only one was Pre-Apprenticeship for boys and Commercial Course for girls. I say that but myself and a guy called Godfrey Welch were on the Commercial course as we both wanted to learn shorthand. Once we got over the embarrassment of being two lads among 20 or 30 girls it was a great year. I can still do a bit of shorthand. There were two teachers whose names I can remember Miss Smith taught shorthand and typing and Mr. Gronow took book-keeping and accounting. Can't remember the lady who took us to english etc. The buildings were old and cramped but that still did not stop the course being excellent and proved a good start point for those who transferred from places like Larkmead.
