I was there in '91 when there was a stabbing and it was got pretty crazy. It was so busy we ended up just walking home. It seems to have become much less violent over the years which is a great.

I used to go to Notting Hill on duty as a police officer and over the years detested the cacophony, squalor and anarchy. I remember clearly people asking us how to get to wherever within the carnival and then a couple of hours later the same people asked for the quickest way out. The original concept was good but soon became overtaken by the under classes that infiltrated it and turned it into a crime fest. Now that I'm retired I have the option of not going which I elect to do every time.

I used to live in Notting hill gate W8. Great area. Never been to the carnival, no desire to go, mainly for the reasons given by Derek Middlemass.

I have fantastic memories of the Carnival, as I have gone every year since 1976. Travelling to London from Saturday until Tuesday for the street party.

It was good in the 80's .... bad in the 90's .... went last year & was surprised how boring & predictable it's become!!!!!
