Aviation - Brabazon I 1947

The Bristol Type 167 'Brabazon' in a hangar surrounded by aircraft workers. The Brabazon was a step-too-far far the airlines of the day, and only this one prototype was ever flown. It was scrapped in 1953.

I was sitting in my bedroom window which overlooked the airfield when the Brab made its first ever Take Off. It took off to the East flying over the crowd of onlookers on the main road, the crowd went wild, there had been constant anti Brab comments for several years claiming it would never fly... but it did.!
I was about 17 then and went on to have a life in Aviation till I retired in 1990, now I am very old !

I remember seeing the Brab whilst I was on a shopping trip to Lodge Causeway, I thought she looked great. My family went to an Air Day at Filton and the Brab was on display on the tarmac and I stood next to one of the wheels which turned out to be taller than me - I was about ten years old!
