Bournemouth University was previously known as Dorset Institute of Higher Education (usually DIHE), later formally shortened to Dorset Institute, and from 1991 as Bournemouth Polytechnic. In 1993 a vote of undergraduates organised by the Students Union (BPSU) voted to change the name to Bournemouth University. The Students Union was renamed SUBU. (Sadly, the students didn't actually have the necessary clout to change the name from a Poly to Bournemouth University... ...and the choice of 'Bournemouth' when it became a Polytechnic in the first place was highly controversial, not least because the main campus was (and still is) in Poole, not Bournemouth. At that time, the favourite names for the new Poly amongst students were Wessex and Dorset.)
