Soldiers of the Berkshire Regiment board a 100-seat Bristol Britannia turboprop airliner at Hurn airport, Hampshire. They were about to take part in the airlift of troops to the Mediteranean. The operation sees Britannias in service for the first time for passenger flights.

As a member of the RAF, I flew many thousands of miles in the "whispering Giant" as it was nick-named.
