The scene at Dover where hundreds of truckers were stranded after a strike by French dockers closed the port of Calais. The pay dispute caused chaos as freight operators were unable to reach the port and two P&O Stena Line ferries were turned back to Dover. *... carrying a total of 1,000 passengers . All ferry traffic into Calais was suspended after dockers who operate loading ramps at the harbour went on strike. Kent Police launched Operation Stack, turning the M20 into a lorry park, and over 100 trucks remained there overnight.
