I'll always associate torpedos with the street-party we had at the end of WW2. Each child was given a triangular poke of sweets. Mine were torpedos, and were associated with your (child's view of) participation in the war. I loved the various colours, and the fact that you'd suck off the sweet exterior, then to find the bonus of liquorice inside. Magic!
