I first saw Jasper, before he was famous, in 1970 at the 'Boggery' folk club. It was located at the 'Old Moseleians' rugby club in Lugtrout Lane ( what a name ) somewhere in Solihull whwhich I believe was held on M

It was so packed that you could hardly move or breath. They outgrew the venue and moved to somewhere bigger in Solihull town centre. Jasper's act back then was mostly singing with a few jokes and anecdotes in between. It slowly became more jokes and less singing. I played football against him one Sunday morning and apparently, that's where his name comes from. Filling his name in on the form, they put 'J. CARROT' as a joke, as he wasn't yet registered. Someone called him 'Jasper', and it stuck.

I remember him well at 'The Boggery' in the 70's along with Jake Thackery. The Boggery was almost in Catherine De Barnes close to The Boat pub which used to be a Davenports house. As you say Lugtrout Lane sounds great. Great memories.

Jasper, what a hoot, lived in the same house on Lode Lane, Solihull back in the 1970's. He had - what he called - "The Penthouse" - basically the attic. I used to rib him about it and said if ever he gave up his gaff to put me on his waiting list. We had some wild parties at the house in Lode Lane, nothing sinister tho. Jasper was an ordinary guy and very much in love with Hazel, a local girl who worked as a reporter for the Solihull News. Hazel involved me in her column on fashion. Wow
