Me too! They might not allow it in schools any more, but i'm sure kids still play this great game out of school! surely!

Ouch!!! Remember all those 'smarting' & 'bruised' fingers. But didn't we just love playing against our mates & if you won ,,, you 'owned' the 'CHAMPION CONKER' in your area. Still teach my grandchildren the 'art' of good old fashioned 'conkering' whenever I get the chance.

I don't think I played "conkers" much but I enjoyed making little tables and chairs out of the flat sided ones, using pins for legs and chair backs, usually weaving some yarn in and out of the backs.

We used to have competitions at school as well as at home, never managed to beat my brother who had the King Conker.

so much fun, a game Americans have no knowledge of, at least none that I've met they look bewildered when I describe it. what a shame it has been deemed "unsafe" I remember getting hit on hands, but didn't consider it "dangerous"
