Disasters and Accidents - Ibrox Stadium Disaster - Glasgow1971
Rangers manager Willie Waddell, second left, talking to journalists at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow. Sixty six people died and many more were injured in the crush at the end of the match against Celtic.
Willie Waddell was my stepfather's brother, and he was so moved by the tragedy that he made sure that it could never happen again at Ibrox by building a safe all-seated stadium, a move that was followed by clubs all over the country. My father and uncle were both at that game, and we were so relieved to see them walk in the door safe and well, and oblivious to what had happened.
