(He also was at the building of the similar extension on Inch Parks School) In 1955 the toilets were rudimentary, enough said, later upgraded to china with inset wooden warmers and proper plumbing, they were outside at the back of the main building. There was also a shed for shelter when it rained, often!, and a sand pit, natural of course, being the on the flood plain of the Pultanton. Most people at the school in 1955 walked, I think the longest walk was from Freuch cottages and the furthest travel was from Tonnachrae farm. In 1955 the forestry was just saplings, and we were warned in pain of ‘the belt’ not to go out of the playground into the ‘commission’ although there was a path via the Moat to the village as an alternative to the factory road.
