I remember the little 1/3 of a pint bottles and the silver tops . we got out milk just before the first break of the day. If they had any left the well behaved students may have gotten a second one before the last break of the schoolday. This I remember was usually, warm as the dickens as it was left on or near the radiators in the class

My brother didnot like milk and the teachers would try to force him to drink it . He would refuse but after much pressure ffrom the headmistress he drank it then promptly threw-up on her. Found out later in life he was lactose intolerant.

Yes , Thatcher took it away. That woman was totally ruthless because later she took most of workers rights away and caused more trouble than all of the modern day prime ministers. That bxxxxh has a lot to answer for.

I suggest you look more deeply into records. It was the previous Labour govt that took away the first layer of free milk to schools. I don't remember any outcry about that at the time! Mrs T did not take away workers' rights, she reinstated them. Instead of being led by the nose by Communist Union Leaders, there was compulsory balloting before strike action.
I spent 6 years in a Communist country. Why didn't you try that? North Korea awaits you!

As a youngster in the 50's, the milk was very welcome. Coming from a poor background I would go to school with a very empty tummy. The milk possibly saved my life.
