A Eurostar train passes alongside the M2 in Kent on its way to breaking the UK rail speed record at a recorded speed of 208 miles per hour. * The 14-carriage, 600-ton train was travelling on a test run on the 1.9 billion first section of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link which will open for passenger service in September. The train beat the previous record of 162.2mph which was set by British Rail's ill-fated tilting Advanced Passenger Train in December 1979.
