School dinner lady Jackie Furneaux, 42, who today (Monday) backs a campaign to let workers in part-time employment gain paid holidays under the European Working Time Directive. Jackie, who has worked at a school in south-west London for over eight years and used to receive paid holidays before her work was contracted out by the local authority to a private firm four years ago, receives no pay when the school is closed and has not been able to afford a holiday for herself, self-employed husband David and two sons. Jackie commented: "It is through no fault of our own that we are off work for 13 weeks a year. I desperately hope this directive will now become law in this country".
