KSC16 - 19981029 - KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES : The Space Shuttle Discovery blasts off launch pad 39-B at the Kennedy Space Center, FL 29 October. Discovery flew into orbit with a crew of seven, including Senator John Glenn, 77, a payload specialist who was the first American to orbit the earth in 1962. Discovery's crew will conduct a variety of science experiments in the pressurized SPACEHAB module and deploy and retrieve the Spartan free-flyer payload. PA NEWS PHOTO
