the villages of Burghead and Hopeman had their own schools and just the pupils from Duffus and the surrounding countryside attended Keam. Threre were three classes for many years until the school at Drainie closed due to the proximity of the Lossiemouth Naval Airport, then the children from that area were bussed to the Keam School. The School eventually closed around 1968 and is now a dwelling house. For a while the owners let a holiday flat converted out of the old lavies!!!! The most famous teachers were Mrs Mackay who has been known to chase pupils with her strap or send volunteers around the class to smell the bottoms of their friends to see who had prrrrpped.- and of course Mrs Bakie who walked the 5 miles to school every day from Hopeman even wading through snow up to her thighs.
