Originally founded in the 16th century, it was moved to its present site in 1906. The building was paid for by an old boy of the Lynn Grammar School, William Lancaster, who was knighted in the Great Hall by King Edward Vll when he officially opened the school on 5 November 1906. In 1979 the school became a mixed comprehensive and was renamed King Edward Vll High School. It reverted to its previous name, King Edward Vll School, on 1 September 2000 when it also became a Specialist Sports College.
