My grandad had a cafe in the market, i remember sitting on the step of it when I was about 3 !
There was an old saying back in the fifties, you could cycle to the market and leave it at the start and buy it back at the finish LOL

yes, I agree with Christine - I used to love going there with my dad in the 50s when I was a child and after going back to see it in recent years find it very sad to see the huge change
Remember it well .My mum used to take me there ('salt beef sandwich ) ah This was a brilliant London market .
Can anyone give me Jonnie Talylors information, he lives on the Gold Coast in Australia, I have some news for him!!!!

I have fond memories of Petticoat lane. my Nan had a stall there and sold tea towels, socks,Handkerchiefs, she could sure tell the punters where to go. Often thinking of dear old Annie and her big rosy cheeks and smile.
Bought my first tea set from there on the stall where the bloke used to throw all the china up in the air!! How he used to catch it all without it all getting chipped is a mystery! I've still got a couple of plate's and that was back in 1977, the lasy jubilee,

I bought my first party dress from here (1952) it was a ghastly yellow and black and I thought I looked gorgeous!!! I worked in Bishopsgate and loved browsing the stalls.
