I was an apprentice at Vauxhalls I started in 1956 as an office boy..this main canteen could seat 4,000 at dinner time and there was 3 dinner breaks 1/4 to 12 to 1/4 to 1..1/4 to 1 to 1/4 to 2 and 1/4 to 2 to 1/4 to 3... imagine the noise and clatter, I loved it..what memories.Looking towards the stage end on the left was the bar for snooker and a quick pint..wouldn't be allowed today I guess.

What a small world Daphne, I knew Jill when I was a kid about 14 years old I think. She lived in Gardenia Avenue Luton as I recall, or it may have been Norton Rd. I lived in Filmer rd.

Sure did, they lived at number 36 and I lived next door at number 34...David the oldest, then Tony, Elaine, or was Elaine older than Tony? can't remember, and then Alan, who we all knew as Bill for some reason..grew up with them in the forty's and fifty's. I lived there until I was 25 and got married.

I am their cousin and I lived at 41 Linden Road, my name was Daphne de Groot before I got married. I regularly visit Elaine as she only lives a couple of miles from me. There was also Alma who I think was between David and Tony and she has lived in America for a long time now and Elaine was after Tony.

Oh yes forgot about Alma, my sister Margaret kept in touch with Elaine for many years, but unfortunately can't speak since she had a stroke some years ago. As a kid I always pestered Elaine to borrow her push bike, her bike was the first one I learnt to ride on.
