chool of Art was established. 1976 - The Mid-Essex Technical College and Brentwood College of Education merged to form the Chelmer Institute of Higher Education. 1984 - The Chelmer Institute became the Essex Institute of Higher Education. 1989 - The Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology and the Essex Institute of Higher Education became statutory corporations and then merged to become Anglia Higher Education College. 1991 - Anglia was granted Polytechnic status becoming Anglia Polytechnic. 1992 - The Privy Council awarded University status thus forming Anglia Polytechnic University. 1992 - Work commenced on the new Rivermead Campus in Chelmsford. 1995 - Her Majesty the Queen officially opened the Queen's Building on the Rivermead Campus, Chelmsford.
