This ornamental fountain was provided in 1896 by Joseph Pease, one of the Owners of the Middlesbrough Estate, and it was traditionally surrounded by beautiful flower beds. Restoration work is currently being undertaken on these features. The refreshment rooms on the right no longer survive, but were presented to the town in 1874 by Henry Bolckow, who died in 1878.

The summer of '76 saw me as a young student nurse laying in the cooling waters of this fountain. When did the water fountain stop?
