worked with Staffordshire University's Electronics Design Centre, were nominated for the category of Joint Development of the Year at the Electronics Industry Design Awards. The winners were K-POW from Warwickshire who, with help from the university, developed a solar powered battery charger. Steve Bateman, Assistant Manager at Beaconside Sports Centre, and his partner completed a 250 mile fundraising cycle trek and raised £6,000 for the charity DEBRA, a charity which helps people with the skin disorder called epidermolysis bullosa (EB). Staffordshire University hosted the 37th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC 2002). The Health Connection Fitness Suite moved from College Road to the Stanley Matthews Sports Centre on Leek Road of the Stoke campus.
