DECEMBER 20th: On 20/12/1920, a young English comedian, Leslie Townes Hope, gaines US Citizenship. He changed his name to Bob hop and became one of the American Icons of the 20th Century BOB HOPE 1977: Bob Hope's Press conference at Claridge's hotel during which he talked about the late Bing Crosby. Hope comperes tonight's Silver Jubilee Royal Variety Gala at the London Palladium. Hope was born Leslie Hope at 44 Craigton Rd, Eltham, South East London in 1903. * 28/07/03 Hope has died aged 100. The British born entertainer, who celebrated his centenary in May, had not appeared in public for some time.
