Mr Turnip featured on Whirligig, one of the first children’s variety TV shows. He was a very popular figure in kids TV of the Fifties. Lawky, Lawky, Lum!

Other favourites about that time were Billy Bunter of Greyfriars School , Knights in Armour Muffin the mule with Annette Mills, Andy Pandy and Teddy and Looby Lou! And I seem to remember a singing cowboy and a goofy Horse puppet !
