Plymouth, Charles Church 1889

The building of Charles Church started in 1640 after Charles I gave permission for another parish to be created.
Construction was suspended in the Civil War and completed in 1657. It was dedicated to King Charles the Martyr
in 1665. Once one of the finest post-Reformation Gothic churches in the country, Charles Church was gutted in
the blitz and the ruins retained as a memorial to Plymouth's war dead.

Stood proudly in the center of a round about up from Bretoside bus station. There was a petrol station opposite it that you had to drive in and around to get to the bowsers
