An officer examines two police vehicles which were among 10 vehicles damaged when a stolen forklift truck left a trail of destruction during a five-mile police slow speed chase in York city centre. The chase ended when officers deployed a stinger device across its path. *...Six people were injured, including three police officers, in the incident. A man has been arrested. 02/05/03 Ray Wilson, 22, hot-wired a eight tonne Caterpillar forklift truck and went on the rampage through the streets of York. He was jailed for six years at York Crown Court, which heard that Wilson told officers he intended to visit his mother on Merseyside and had learnt to drive the 25,000 vehicle from an instruction manual he obtained in the library. Wilson had pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, criminal damage and recklessly endangering the lives of 14 people. A fourth charge of criminal damage was ordered to lie on the file.
