ONLINE DATING MAP OF BRITAIN IS REVEALED

Brighton has been named by Friends Reunited's Dating service as the new Online Romance Capital of Britain.

The south coast seaside town came out ahead of Nottingham and Newcastle as the place where most dates have been arranged through the internet in the weeks leading up to Valentine's Day.

To identify the UK's Online Dating Hotspots, Friends Reunited Dating counted up the number of email messages sent per head in each town.

Surprisingly perhaps, London doesn't even make the top 15, based on the number of romantic emails sent through Friends Reunited per head of population.

The survey also shows that online dating is by no means confined to the young, with many retired people now joining the trend. Brighton and Nottingham again stand out as having a large number of Friends Reunited Dating members over 75 - as do London and Birmingham.

Rhoda Moore, Head of Romance at Friends Reunited, said: "More Valentine's dates will have been arranged online this year than ever. People of all ages are doing it, all over the country.

"If you date through the internet in Brighton, you will get the most number of people looking at your written profile and also the most approaches from people interested in meeting up."

The top 10 towns in full are:

1. Brighton
2. Nottingham
3. Newcastle
4. Southampton
5. Leicester
6. Manchester
7. Cardiff
8. Bristol
9. Glasgow
10. Liverpool

Friends Reunited also analysed data from its website to find out how far people around the country are prepared to roam in search of the perfect partner.

The old song says 'I'd go a million miles for one of your smiles' - but Friends Reunited's experience is that 50 miles is as far as most people will travel!

The majority of would-be daters specify 50 miles as the maximum distance they're prepared to go in pursuit of love and affection.

Around the country, only London, Belfast and Liverpool pass the 'million miles for a smile' test. Some 10 per cent of online daters in these cities say they'd go 'any distance' - but only if marriage was definitely on the cards.

Hull sticks out as the city in Britain where people are most likely to look for love locally. Hull's the only place in the country with zero online daters who would go 'anywhere at all' to find the perfect partner - though 57 per cent would stretch to 50 miles to 'see how it goes'.

And do blondes really have more fun? Not according to Friends Reunited they don't.

You'll get the same number of offers for dates whether your hair is blonde, light brown or dark brown.
