NEVER MIND LONDON FASHION WEEK JUST BRING BACK BELL-BOTTOMS
Friends Reunited takes a trip down memory lane to reveal Britain's favourite fashions
A staggering 96% of men and women aged between 45 and 55 owned a pair of bell-bottoms in their youth, according to a survey conducted by Friends Reunited. No other fashion item of any era comes close in the popularity stakes.
Of the 2,000 members surveyed aged 16 to over 65, 58 percent said they had owned a pair of the Seventies fashion essential and over 15% have kept hold of their bell-bottoms 'just in case they come round again'. Members' other favourites varied from an Action Man t-shirt through to the England Football Club shell-suit, neon socks, paisley shirt, leg-warmers and the punk-style puffball skirt.
Steve Pankhurst, founder of Friends Reunited, says: "It seems that we've found the ultimate fashion item of all time and yes I did have a pair of bell-bottoms and no they're not still in my wardrobe. I am pleased to see that good old fashioned jeans - my clothing of choice - have stood the test of time and feature most in people's wardrobes.
"The truth is most of us claim not to be interested in the latest fad, with only 12% of people surveyed saying they were 'dedicated followers of fashion', so eat your heart out Julien Macdonald!"
So far there has not been a flared trouser in sight at the London Fashion Week, where controversial designer Macdonald revealed his latest glitzy range on Sunday. In his profile on Friends Reunited, the Merthyr-born fashion king, writes: "Still messing about with fabric, getting there slowly*."
Danish designer Camilla Staerk appealed to nostalgic retro fans as she sent models down the catwalk in high waisted pencil skirts, cat suits in red and panther prints and the old beloved puffball skirt.
