The UK internet phenomenon connecting families every minute!

Tuesday 2nd March

Genes Connected, the sister website of Friends Reunited and the UK's number one family tree site celebrates its one millionth member.

Tracing family roots is already the second most popular hobby in the United States, according to the National Genealogical Society*¹. As the UK's number one family tree website from the makers of Friends Reunited, Genes Connected has become so popular it is now connecting families every 52 seconds*² from a database of over 10 million names.

Anthony Adolph, a professional expert on genealogy who has studied family ancestry for over fifteen years, has noticed an incredible trend in the UK as more people start using websites such as Genes Connected:

"The internet has truly revolutionised the way people can trace their family history. The resources available on the web mean that more people than ever before are becoming excited about their past, where previously research was considered too expensive, time-consuming or difficult"

Michelle Barker, Head of Genes Connected said,

"Everyday, we are connecting our members connect for the first time with mothers, fathers, siblings and cousins, and they are discovering incredible stories about their families' lives. We're proud that Genes Connected is now the best way to discover your family - across centuries and across the world."

Darryl Hedger, a 51 year old coach driver from Eastbourne, found his two half-sisters and two half-brothers who had been looking for him for over 15 years, "I met my sisters only days after going on Genes Connected and now a new door has opened in my life." Like Darryl, in the survey by Genes Connected, nearly half (46%) of the UK population said they would prefer to use the internet than any other method to learn more about family tree and ancestors.

Genes Reunited allows its members to share a wealth of knowledge about their family traditions and history. Many members have filled in missing links in their family history that has puzzled them for years; some tracing thousands of family names in their trees that extends back for centuries.
