aaah- my favourite period of chelsea 1969 to 1971 - a great side, the lovely old east stand, wonderful players, made a big impression on this (then) 10 year old slip of a boy, jumpers for goalposts etc etc.....

When 15 years old I watched Chelsea draw 0-0 with Leeds on 11 December 1971 - a tough game but an enduring memory - however, I cannot find any footage of the game - did the BBC delete this match?

This is how i will always remember Stamford Bridge...Fun and exciting times to watch Chelsea play, especially in the 70's.

My first match ever was Spurs-Chelsea around 69/70 after we moved to North London from Hackney when I was 9 . I think we drew 1-1 and thats when I decided to support the BluesMy first match at Stamford Bridge was in '69/70 I think against West ham and I think we lost 3-2. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone know how old this photo is ? being a greyhound fan,I know there used to be a track at Stamford Bridge. Not certain if it was round the outside of the pitch or not.,or if it was at the ground.Looks very much like it in the photo from the days of grass tracks. PS I was at old Trafford for the FA Cup final replay in 1970 -one slight problem -my mate and me were in with the Leeds fans-forgot ourselves when Dave Webb scored, and got some very strange looks.

Andrew, that Leeds game in 71 was my first ever game at the Bridge, never seen any footage of it though. But this Chelsea site has a press report of the game, carefree.
Thanks Kevin - it's good to see the press cuttings - I have researched extensively to find footage of the game - no luck - however, when staying in Wandsworth in 1971 I do recall seeing some highlights on the TV - prior to returning to Australia we saw our home team Div 4 Cambridge United beat Grimsby Town on 27/12/71 ( 3-1 ) - a large crowd of 8,000 saw a really good game .....cheers from Down Under!
