Stirling Moss, British Grand Prix 1961, Aintree, Liverpool 1961

Stirling Moss took over the driving of the Rob Walker entered four wheel drive Ferguson Climax P99 from Jack Fairman but he was black flagged on lap 56 because Jack Fairman had received a push start from the pits during the race. Stirling Moss won the Oulton Park Gold Cup in 1961 driving the Ferguson. I have read reports on the race that said that Stirling was black flagged while he was leading the race, this is absolute rubbish, he was well down the field when he took over driving the car and in 1961 no other make of car could match the speed of the Ferrari 156 in dry conditions.

John, you were at the 1957 British Grand Prix at Aintree. Stirling Moss took over the Vanwall of Tony Brooks and Stuart Lewis Evans finished in 7th. place, I first went to Aintree to see the Aintree "200" in april 1958. Unfortunaitely Stuart Lewis Evans was killed in 1958 when his Vanwall's engine seized and he crashed heavily during the Moroccan Grand Prix, he died of his injuries six days later.
