Sugar Mice 1934

My sister, brothers and I always looked forward to finding a pink sugar mouse wedged in the toe of each of the black stockings we'd hung up for Santa to fill. I don't think I ever really enjoyed eating mine, but it was all part of the Christmas tradition when I was a kid - over sixty years ago!

These were special sweets. They still make them now but not with the sparkly sugary coating and soft interior.

When I see sugar mice it always reminds me of christmas when I was a child, it was the only time my mum bought them for me.I bought some a short while ago from one of the shops selling old fashioned sweets, very disappointed, didn't taste the same.

My mum worked at Barretts Sweet Factory in Wood Green for many years, and I do believe she made the sugar mice and the jelly dummies I remember. She used to bring some home. I'm not sure if she was supposed to. Bit late now. ha ha
