The Cotswold Olimpics: Shin Kicking 1755

The home of competitive Shin Kicking is reportedly Dover's Hill in the Costwolds, where Robert Dover instigated a day of sporting contests by royal approval in 1612. Pig racing, cabre tossing and so on were all included in a day named The Cotswold Olipmpics. The games were disbanded in 1852, but not forgotten. In fact a revival occurred in 1951 and a fully re-established festival began again in 1963, with Shin Kicking its main centre-piece sporting event. The Cotswold Olimpics are now held on the Friday following the Whitsun Bank Holiday each year. Shin Kickers are allowed to line their trousers with straw, and nothing else, with object being to 'floor' their opponent. In reality it's more of a wrestling match...
