THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON c1815 (1769-1852) One of Britain's most capable soldiers, he was given command of the British forces against the French in the Peninsular War (1808-1814) and was commander of the Allied Army at Waterloo where Napoleon was defeated in June 1815.
