TONY JONSSON : RAF SPITFIRE PILOT. 1941

1941: Tony Jonsson, the first Icelander to fly with the RAF, shares a joke with his ground crew (fitter and rigger) from the cockpit of his Spitfire. Jonsson, whose mother was English, was accepted by the RAF at 18 on his third attempt. He is pictured here while stationed with 111 Squadron ('Treble One') at North Weald airfield.
