A double whammy for memorable days – not only did Virginia Wade's victory make her the first British woman to win Wimbledon in eight years (and also the last one so far), but it was also Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee (she attended the match and presented the trophy). Not a bad day for the girls.
I remember it very well as I was a ball boy there, it was also the first year that they had ball girls at Wimbledon. I was in the line-up when the queen walked through. I still have the uniform along with a second set that was issued to all that were in the line-up for the Queen. 1977 was also the Wimbledon centenary year. Ahh happy memories of that long hot summer.

I dont remember it for the tennis, I was 19 at the time, and had a weeks holiday off work, a neighbour who was a European lorry driver asked me if i'd like a trip to Holland with him, and we were listening to the game on the radio in the lorry.
