More than 40 eateries were eagerly-awaiting the guide, the consumers' bible, to see if they have been either awarded their first ever Michelin symbol, or moved up the ladder competing with 6,000 restauranteurs, hoteliers and pub landlords in the Britain and Ireland. Among this year's successes is the Gordon Ramsay restaurant in London's fashionable Chelsea district, which can now boast Michelin's top accolade of three stars. 6/5/2001: Temperamental chef Gordon Ramsay revealed that he knocked back Madonna from his London restaurant because there was not enough room. The pop superstar had tried to get a table at the Chelsea eaterie of the three Michelin-starred kitchen guru, notorious for once booting out actress Joan Collins and her dining companion, critic AA Gill. But in an interview with Radio Times, Ramsay said he was not bothered about packing his restaurant with famous faces and did not take "backhanders" to let them in.
